Explanation Of Work Week Devotions & Daily Reading Schedule

December 31

First of all let me say, “THANK YOU,” for sharing this time with our Work Week Devotions. It is our prayer and desire that these daily devotions will aid you in your walk with the Lord.

We have selected the book of Proverbs as it shares, with anyone who will act upon its wisdom, the opportunity to enjoy the life God intended for them. You will also find all the scriptures used are from the King James Version of the Bible. Not only does the author of these Devotions believe the KJV to be the most accurate English translation of God’s Word, it is also written in a poetic style. Which in the case of the Book of Proverbs is very important. Proverbs is part of a section of the Old Testament in the bible known as the Poetic Books.

Let me take just a moment to introduce to you the thought behind the design of the upcoming daily Devotions.

You may be asking yourself what does the term “Work Week Devotions” mean. It means we have designed these devotions to be used during a five day work week. For many people that would be Monday through Friday. We have also only covered fifty-one out of the fifty-two week year. The reason is, not every year begins on Monday. So we have created these devotions to begin on Monday and conclude on Sunday. Also, the design allows you to begin using this Devotional material anytime during the year you may wish. It does not have to begin in January as many do.

Each day begins with a Title for the Devotion, and a reading from the book of Proverbs. This is followed by what we call; Outlook from the In Book.” This is a short commentary by Dr. Senters of his thoughts about the passage from Proverbs you have just read.

Next you will find a short section under the heading; The Word Walking In Me.” This section is a short thought reflecting on that day’s topic which you can carry through the day. It’s often hard to remember all we read. However, a simple overview or thought we can often remembered, that we might meditate on during the day. In the book of Joshua we are told:

 Joshua 1:8
This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success.

While the words written by the author are not the inspired words of God, the desire is that the thoughts may help you remember what God has said in that days passage.

At the end of each devotion you will find a suggested reading for the day we have entitled, “God Talking To Me.” The reading is not purposefully chosen to reflect on the topic of the Devotion. However if you will follow these readings everyday, you will read through the entire Bible in one year.

The daily bible reading is also divided into five days a week for fifty-one weeks. On Saturday, we suggest you re-read the Chapter of Proverbs written about in the past week and also the Chapter of Proverbs you will study the next week.

You may also quickly notice there are no Bible Readings scheduled for Sundays. There is a simple reason for this. We want you to read and study whatever the Lord has laid on your Pastors heart for that week. Whatever his text is for the morning and evening service was given to him by God for your specific needs. The principal for this is found in Act 17:10 & 11.

 Acts 17:10-11
And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Those who were from Berea had a good practice that we might do well to follow. The Bible even says they were more noble for doing so. The practice we encourage is to listen intently to the preaching of God’s Word, then let it soak in even more by re-reading the text, and examining what God was saying there. Reading a chapter before and after the text will help. However you decide to do this, we hope you might let this become a habit in your life, examining what God wants to share with your life week by week.

We hope you enjoy; Living In His Word Daily Through Proverbs over the next fifty-one weeks with Work Week Devotions. May God richly bless you day by day as you allow Him to speak into your hearts.

THROUGH PROVERBS

December 30      We have come to the end of another year…

This is always an awkward week, as we try to end one year and begin a new year..

For that reason we will spend the days of this week introducing you to the 2020 Devotions, entitled “THROUGH PROVERBS.”

Several years ago I published these devotions, and many loved them. However, all the web sites where they were published have been deleted or taken down and a few people have asked if we might examine this wonderful book once again.

I am delighted to re-examine this old favorite filled with the wisdom of God as presented through Solomon, and a few others.

The Daily Bible Reading will be a bit different as we will simply read a passage from Proverbs every day, and re-read that chapter at the end of the week. There will also be a Daily Bible reading that will take you straight through the rest of the bible if read every day. This will all begin Next Monday. If you like the Traditional Schedule of reading a portion from the Old Testament and a portion from the New Testament daily, we will provide that for you as well. It will be your choice.

GOD SAID:
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

That is our overwhelming desire. To help each of you in your quest to study God’s Word and make it relevant to your daily life. This feeds into Living In His Word’s moto of:

“Getting people into the Word of God…

….and the Word of God into people.”

This week we will:

Behold, The True King

December 2
Daily Reading – Zechariah 11-14 / Revelation 21

GOD SAID:

Zechariah 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

The people of this world that we live in, have always sought after a god. Some will say there is no God. In doing so, they make themselves out to be their own god. Others look to the stars and science, believing that in some way, the study of our solar system, and all that’s out there, will give us the understanding we need about our existence. They have made education their god. While many create a god of their own liking. One that might look like them, or that may resemble an animal, or plant that they can see and touch. They create a god in their own image. Then there are the multiple religions created around ancient faulty teachings, or new age cults. Everyone, whether they realize it or not, desires to worship something or someone. Arguments, family divisions, national disputes, and even bloody wars have been the result of these multiple ideas of a god. Wouldn’t it be great if everyone would realize that there is really only one God?

That day is coming. Through the prophesies of Zechariah we read; “And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.”  The world will speak one pure language according to Zeph. 3:9. God casts out all false idols and beliefs according to Zech. 13:1-2. Finally, His name will be the only name recognized as the eternal King of Kings. The truth of Deut. 6:4 says; “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:”

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

No one has to wait for the Millennial reign of our Lord Jesus Christ to crown Him King of their life. When we remove the other idols of this world from our life, including self, science, and social idolatry, we can then worship Him as the only Lord in our life.

Is He the King of Kings in your life?

Best Money Advice Ever

December 28 & 29
December 28 – Malachi / Revelation 22
December 29 – NO Daily Reading

GOD SAID:

Malachi 3:10 Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Money. There’s seminars, books and financial counselors galore on this one subject. Yet, the simplest financial advice causes some Christians to cringe. Tithing. A simple word that means a tenth part of something. This means ten percent of your gross earnings should go to God. I know already some of you are mad. But think on this. God lets you keep ninety percent. He could rightfully ask for it all and demand you live totally by faith in Him. Some say that’s Old Testament law. So is thou shalt not kill, but you seem to like that one. Thou shalt not steal, doesn’t bother you because that helps you keep your stuff. Getting never seems to upset anyone. It’s the giving back that drives them crazy. Do this for me. Take ten bananas, ten oranges, apples, eggs, and carrots and lay nine of each in one pile and one by itself. Now look at these piles. The pile with forty-five items is what God gave you. The little dinky pile with only five items is what he asks you to use to help Him get His message of salvation out to others. Yet, for some reason we want our pile, plus at least God’s banana.

The next problem is where we give it. Some want to divide the tithe among several charities or different ministries. However, that is not what God says to do. It’s to be given to the storehouse, general offerings of your local church. Verse ten doesn’t say that about the offerings, just the tithe. Offering can be placed anywhere God leads you.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Money! It’s not evil, but it can be the root of all evil if we don’t do things God’s way. God says here; “prove me,” or test me. What does He promise in return? He will pour out blessing from heaven on you. So, go ahead, try it. You’ll like it, I promise.

Have you tried God’s finance plan?

Blessings And Pleasing

December 26
Daily Reading – Zechariah 7-10 / Revelation 20

GOD SAID:

Zechariah 8:16-17 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

When trying to think of what we as Christians would like to do in the future, pleasing God must be right up there at the top of every list. For the child of God, there’s a clear understanding that pleasing God and enjoying a blessed life always go hand in hand. I once read, ”if you want to really enjoy your life, find the will of God and just do it.” To investigate the future and not see God there would actually be looking backwards.

So, what can we do in the upcoming months that might be pleasing to God? Looking at today’s text, and remembering, we serve a God who never changes, here are things He told Israel to do as they rebuilt their lives with Him. First, be honest. Just quit living a bunch of lies. If someone asks you a question you don’t want to answer, politely decline. Don’t make up a lie to make them feel better. Speak the truth in an atmosphere of love and peace. That’s the next thing God adds. When telling the truth, use some common sense. Does telling the neighbor you think their dog is ugly help anything? NO. Who knows, you might be wrong. Maybe it’s a cute dog and you have poor tastes in canines. Think about what you say, tell the truth, but in love. Next God says; don’t waste time trying to get even, or making others look bad so you look good. You always look bad doing so. Finally, be a person of your word. Don’t make promises you can’t or won’t keep. He ends saying, these are things He hates. That never ends well.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Why does God hate these things? Because they violate His love for man, disrespect Him, and His will. When planning your tomorrows, keep in mind what pleases God. Honest, peace loving, trustworthy people. Blessings and pleasing God both go hand in hand.

Are we pleasing to God?
