We Have A Choice

November 24, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 29:1-4 He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance. The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

It appears that in today’s passages the Bible has once again pointed out a valuable truth we should all remember well. When good men are in a place of authority, people rejoice.

The apparent reoccurring problem here in the United States and around the world, is the same problem the children of Israel had many years ago. It is the problem that once we begin to be happy and content, we also develop spiritual amnesia. We forget to keep the righteous in authority. We forget God blesses the right decisions which are made in accordance with His Word and His Will. However, He also allows the natural result of sin and destruction to take place when we willfully chose sin. When we allow those with perverted views of biblical morals to have the rule over us, we get what we ask for.

To do nothing at all is the same, or even worse than placing them in authority in the first place. As Christians, we need to stand up for God’s Word. Not just at home, but also in our churches, our neighborhoods, and at work or school.

We must also stand up for God’s truths in the decisions we make about our leadership. Our nation and children depend on us to hand over a future that will survive. Ungodly works will never survive. Even though no one else may see you when you cast your votes, God knows.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

Pray for the leadership over you today. Especially if you believe, they are not saved. Pray someone will reach them with the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Pray they will have the courage to stand up for what is right. This is truly a bipartisan action. We need to pray for ALL the leaders of this great land regardless of party affiliation. Be so thankful to the one true God who gave many of us this freedom we so cherish.

A World With No Crime

November 23, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 28:26-28 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoso walketh wisely, he shall be delivered. He that giveth unto the poor shall not lack: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse. When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Could you imagine a world with no crime? There would be no murders, no theft, no rape, no drugs, and no crime of any type anywhere. What a different world this would be. There would be no need for police. Since there is no crime of any kind, when City officials hung traffic signals and signs, people would just obey them all. There would be no need for military might in any country. All countries would abide by borders and boundaries that were dictated by other countries and their people. In addition, since there is no crime, all any country would ever need would be civil laws. There would never be any beating of women or children, and no over taxing of citizens. Taxes and tax laws would be sensible, and all people would be glad to pay their share to help support this perfect government. No one would cheat on taxes so we would have no need for the IRS. A few accountants to count the money and deposit it in the banks would suffice. The FBI, CIA and all such agencies would be extinct. Finally, the evening news would have to report on some good things for a change.

You probably have sat there and said, “Right, in your dreams preacher.” Well you are right, it is within my dreams. I look forward to a place called heaven where God rules and there is no more sin. Oops, I am sorry. We do not like to call it sin anymore now do we. Instead, we would rather just call it crime or social imbalance. It just sounds less religious.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

How wonderful this world would be if we had no sin. Nevertheless, the reality is that there still is sin in this old world today. Our nation’s leaders need our prayers and support as they do their best to lead us to a safer and happier place to live. God is still in control, but He’s given us the rights to self-govern. We must pray for, vote for, and support Godly leadership.

But I Want It

November 20, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 28:22-25 He that hasteth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. He that rebuketh a man afterwards shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue. Whoso robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

“What in the world do you want?” I can remember my mom asking me that question as a young boy. Especially when I would stand around and say, “hey mom, hey mom, hey mom,” until finally she would say, “What in the world do you want?” At that precise moment, what I wanted was an answer to my question. In fact, that is all, “in the world” I could think of. I wanted the answer more than anything else in the world at that moment because it had totally consumed my mind.

I think if we will remember that childhood experience, it may help us in our daily walk with the Lord. Ask yourself, why do we as Christians get to a place where we want what the world has to offer? Often the answer is simply we have allowed it to consume our thoughts. This want in life fills our mind, and then overtakes us as our hearts desire. It becomes all we think of. The cause of this is pride and an attitude of, “I deserve better.” What the world has may look good, but there is no real future, reward, or benefit at the end of a life with any possessions. The richest people in the world die the same as the poor.

So how do we keep from thinking about worldly things? God gave us a way to do that too. He said in Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

The Bible says we need to come as a child to God. So maybe if we would look to Him for all our answers, like we did our parents as children, it would help us focus on what is important. I believed my parents had all the answers…and they had most of them. However, God really does know everything!

Anything, For A Friend

November 19, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 28:19-21 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Isn’t it great to have a friend? Someone you know that you can trust and rely on.

Everyone wants to be liked. Everyone wants to be admired for who he or she is. In our world today, you see people everywhere doing whatever it takes to be liked. It happens in the schools. Teens will compromise their principles simply to fit in with the groups. It happens in the work force. Employers are asking more of employees and giving back less. However, we do it because we want to be liked, accepted, and we want to succeed. It may even seem if you do not do as others ask, then the supposed friendship is over. Why is it over? It is over because if we do not do what is expected someone else will, and he or she then appears to be his or her best friend.

The Bible warns us about this attitude. “For a piece of bread,” a friend will leave you. That friendship was not based on love or respect, but on selfishness. The world we live in today does not think of what they can do for you, but rather, what will you do for them. A mindset of, if what is happening around me today does not benefit me, I am out of here.

God’s Word tells us that we as Christians are to do just the opposite. It is not about what can I get, but what can I give. The Bible does not say go find people to love you, but rather, go and love your neighbor. Jesus said that He did not come to earth to be ministered to, but instead to minister to others. We need not spend so much time trying to please man, better still, just be a good friend. Please God with all you do, and you will have a real friend for all eternity.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

If we are going to be more Christ like, we are going to have to get our eyes off self and back on the Saviour. In Luke 9:48 Jesus held a child and said, “he that is least among you all, the same shall be great.” This world needs a friend. A real friend. Be the best of friends and introduce them to an eternal friend, one who will never forsake them, Jesus.
