BE STILL!

FEBRUARY 22, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In church as young boy, I had a bad habit of fidgeting. I would squirm back and forth all over the pew. I would lean forward and rest my head on the pew in front of me, lean back as if I were going to sleep. Then I would lean to one side and then to the other. I was just constantly moving, until I would about drive my Dad crazy. He would often lean over and say, “Would you please sit still for a while?” I would try for a while, but it seemed so hard.

In Psalms 46:10, God is asking us to do more than just be quiet or quit fidgeting for a while. He says, “BE STILL.” It means pay very close attention and listen with your whole heart. God is trying to get us to stop all the busy stirrings of this life for a moment. To be still, look around, and really concentrate on the magnitude of God.

He goes on to say that if we will be still, we will begin to see that He is exalted in everything around us. He declares that He will even be exalted by those who say He does not exist. You might wonder, “how does that happen?” Well, when someone claims that they do not believe in our God, they immediately give credibility to the fact of that same God. Without God, they would have nothing against which to object. BE STILL and see the wonder of what God is doing.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As we move along through this day, we should try to find time to BE STILL. Just look around at all the blessings God has given to us. BE STILL and behold the wonder of Him all around us. BE STILL, and understand all God is doing in us. BE STILL, and God will be exalted. BE STILL.

Is It Like Christmas Every Day?

FEBRUARY 20 & 21, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Leviticus 9:5And they brought that which Moses commanded before the tabernacle of the congregation: and all the congregation drew near and stood before the LORD.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

If you presently have children or can remember your childhood, then you know what the days leading up to Christmas are like. The constant asking, “did I get…,” “may I open one…,” “how many do I get…,” and on and on. Anxiously waiting for the day when they find out what mom and dad have gotten them this year.

As I read this passage, in my mind’s eye I get a similar picture of the children of Israel acting very much like a child who is waiting for Christmas day. They have prepared, done all they were commanded to do, and now all they can do is stand and wait. They stand waiting for direction, instruction, the voice, or the appearance of the Lord. Can you sense in your heart how they must have anticipated this day? What was going to happen next? What was God going to say through Moses? Everyone wanted to hear. Today’s verse says, “All the congregation drew near.” Everyone pressing closer and closer to hear what God had to say. No one wanted to get it second-hand, they all wanted to hear the Words of God for themselves. With wide eyes and hearts beating, they drew near to hear.

We should approach God’s Word this way today. We now have Gods Word in our hands. It’s called the Bible. Do we draw near to what God has to say as the Children of Israel did? Or are we satisfied to hear it second-hand on Sunday, or from a friend? God’s Words hold the same power and promise today as they did back then.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you draw near to God’s Word today, before you begin, you might bow for a moment and ask God to place within your heart a fervent desire to hear from Him today. Devotionals are great, but if they do not point you to God and His Word, they are just another story. Get excited about hearing from God today.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

You’ll Need To Talk With God About It

FEBRUARY 19, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Luke 11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Some time ago I read a story about a well-known author and authority on prayer who was teaching at a seminar. During the question-and-answer time a man raised his hand and boldly asked, “Doctor, can you tell me how I should pray?” The noted expert responded without hesitation, “The answer is very simple sir, but you are asking the wrong person, you will need to talk with God about it.” He was simply saying, just talk to God, that is prayer.

I know several times over the years as a Pastor I have heard the words “I just don’t know how to pray!” What seems so natural to some folks, seems at times so hard to others. The truth is they do know how to pray. They did it when they received Christ as their Saviour. They bowed their heart to a saving Jesus and prayed for mercy upon their life, for repentance of their sins. They asked God to wash them and make them white as snow and vowed to be His forever as Jesus promised He would be ours forever. Really, to accept Christ, you must have said a prayer in your heart. You come before Him humbly and walk into the throne room of the Almighty God. At that point, we call unto our heavenly Father, and He listens to our every word in prayer. We must remember to respect who He is as we talk with Him, but there is nothing He does not desire to hear. Simply talk to God about it today.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Talking to God is easy. Listening to Him is where most people have the struggle. However, I have found if you really want to hear from Him, you also need to talk with Him. He loves to communicate with us, but communication is a two-way street. Talk with Him today, and as you read His word, listen for that still small voice.

Yes HE Can!

FEBRUARY 18, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 18:10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Some time ago, I had the joy of going to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee with our teens, to a Christian Youth Retreat. While there, we saw many attractions, rides, and activities that were available.

One of them was a ride, where you sat on a bench type chair made for two people, the operator would harness you in, and then release a switch. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, this chair was hooked to two huge rubber band-like straps. The straps were hooked to two tall, towering poles on either side and they were stretched to their fullest. When they would flip the switch to release the chair, these two rubber band-like straps shot you like a slingshot, straight up into the air. It seemed as though you might go all the way to the moon. Then, when the bands had reached their stretched limit in height up into the sky, they would shoot you back toward the ground at almost lightning speed. On the way down, GRAVITY WAS HELPING!

I had watched several people do this with no problems. It was not the height I feared, nor the speed, or even getting sick. My question was, is it strong enough to hold ME! The difference between many of the others and me was this, I weighed around 280 lbs. at that time, and I had not seen anyone else my size on there. Nevertheless, I did it anyway, and it was a blast.

I said that to say this. The love of the Lord is a strong tower. When I turned my life over to the LORD, it was because of His saving grace. I knew from seeing others, who had given their life to Him, He was strong enough to hold ME too. So, I put my faith in Him and sat completely in His loving care.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

I was right. After years of walking with Christ, through good and bad times in my life, He is strong enough to hold me. And friend, He is strong enough to hold you too. The Lord is a strong tower and in Him, you are safe.

Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

FEBRUARY 17, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 43:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Back in the late 1980’s there was a song that came out which had sort of a Jamaican sound to it. Everyone was singing it. Around the house, at work, on the street, and yes, I have even heard it in the walls of the church house. It said very simply, “Don’t worry, Be Happy.”

In Psalms 42 and 43, we find the author saying almost the same thing. In today’s verse he says, “Why are you cast down, O my soul?” In other words, why should a child of the Living God who has everything in control, a God who sees, hears, and allows, (or not) every moment of every day, why should that person be discouraged or worry? He goes on to say, “For I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” By this he means that in the end, life is all up to God. We have placed our life in His hands the day we accepted His Son Jesus Christ as our Saviour. At that very moment, our life was placed IN HIM. To break it down for you in just a little simpler language, “Don’t worry, Be Happy, In the LORD.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

If today seems to have crept up on you with all the worries and concerns of this world, and you feel as though there is little or no hope, take heart. Let me invite you to do as the Psalmist, along with millions of others who have felt this way has done. Place all of your concerns, worries, fears, and sorrows into your faith in the Lord. We read in 1 Peter 5:7 “Casting all your care upon Him; for He careth for you.” Do you believe that today? It is still true! He really cares for you.
