A Man Is A Man

MARCH 31, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 10:25-26 And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped him. But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

One category in the popular self-help books for several years has been that of self-esteem. These books are written to help you avoid the pitfalls of thinking you may have no value in life and to encourage you to think more highly of yourself. This subject has been one that many people have almost become consumed with at times.

Now I am not discounting the fact that there are those who need a boost now and again. Christians also need to remember that they are a child of the Most High God. Being born again, they are part of a Royal Family, Heir to the Kingdom of God, and have been adopted into the Family of God. However, some people have almost taken this issue of self-esteem too far. They have gone far past elevating their discouraged hearts and into believing that people are some sort of god themselves. When this occurs, you find people worshiping people and holding others up almost in the place of God.

In our verse today, Peter understood he was just a man. We know Peter was a great man no doubt. Nevertheless, he was only great because of God’s power in and through him, and not because of his own doing. Should we respect people in authority over us? Yes! However, we should never elevate them to the point of worshiping them. We must remember we are a CHILD of God, an HEIR and ADOPTED into the Family of God. We are not little gods, but rather we are made in the likeness of God. Worship should be reserved for one God and Him alone.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Oh Lord, as I look at those who have meant a lot to me in my life, allow me Father to respect them, appreciate them, and even admire them. However, God let me hold back the worship of any and all things only for you. AMEN

Pick It Up And Read It

MARCH 30, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 30:5-6  Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

There are thousands of books in publication today trying to explain, rearrange, re-write, define, deliberate, illiterate, commentate, make easy reading of, justify, rationalize, demonstrate, reconstruct, redo, present, reword, clarify, disambiguate, illuminate, alter, illustrate, spell out, organize, fix up, paraphrase, amend, modify, revamp, boil down, render, revise, restate, translate, summarize, and condense the Bible.

Some have even written other works that are separate from the Bible and tried to lead people to believe that they just as important as the Bible. A few brazen individuals have gone so far as to call their writings another gospel or another Bible. Some have re-written what they think is the Bible so many times that they do not even know from what they are re-writing.

Does God really need all that help? What if we used all the time we spent reading all these other books and just read the good old fashion King James Bible? With time and study, it does become clear. If we really want to understand it, why not ask the author? Can’t we just call upon the Holy Spirit, who resides in every believer, and ask Him to illuminate its meaning in our hearts. Even better than trying to change God’s Word to fit our lifestyle, why not just do what it says?

All we really need to hear from God is just a plain copy of the truth. I imagine that would take about one lifetime to read, study, and do. I am not anti-books, but we must not lose sight of the Word of God in our lives first. Remember, every Word of the Bible is breathed from the very mouth of God.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

We must all get back to the one true book, the Holy Word of God. We need to simply pick up and read our Bible. As our passage today says, “Every word of God is pure.”

Singing A New Song

MARCH 29, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalms 77:6 I call to remembrance my song in the night: I commune with mine own heart: and my spirit made diligent search.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

You get in your car, start the engine, back out of the drive, and head off for the day. Things are a little quiet, so you turn on the radio and a song begins to play. A song you have heard before with a catchy tune. After just a second or so, you find yourself singing like the lead singer in the band. Just you, the radio, and God, (and maybe the people around you in the other cars who think you are talking to yourself.) Soon you find yourself singing and getting lost in the song. As you step out of the car, you hear this little tune playing over and over again in your mind. Later that day you find yourself again humming or maybe even softly singing the same song.

What has happened to you? It seems that now you cannot get this tune out of your mind. It’s like a constant recording playing again and again. You almost wish someone would sing something else so you could replace the song in your mind with a new one.

The Psalmist in today’s verse is remembering the new song that was placed in his heart when he trusted in the Lord. It plays constantly for him in his heart. Christian Brother and Sister, it should be playing in our hearts as well. It is the song of salvation, which brings peace to our souls as we remember it daily. Knowing that you have decided to follow Jesus and there is no turning back, nor any desire to do so. There is a new song in your heart.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

Back in Psalm 40:3 it says, “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, even praise unto our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” Do you have this new song in your heart? I wonder if the song could be, I have decided to follow Jesus… I have decided to follow Jesus… I have decided to follow Jesus… No Turning Back… No Turning Back…
(I hope this song gets stuck in your head for today.)

Did We Learn From History?

MARCH 27 & 28, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Deuteronomy 6:13-14 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God, and serve him, and shalt swear by his name. Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the people which are round about you;

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

In the spring as I drive to church on Sunday, I see people cleaning their yard, washing their car, and enjoying the warmer weather. God has given us such a pretty season. He brings the sun out to shine upon us again. It is not too warm and not too cold. Birds are singing and it is just an incredibly beautiful time of year. However, as I drive to church to meet fellow church members, I must wonder, what god do some people who miss church worship, if any? Do they realize this is a day set aside to fellowship and sing praise to the Lord? Has our nation, which claimed at one time to be a Christian nation, forgotten God? Could it be that we are worshiping the god of self and choosing what I want as more important than what God may want?

How easy is it to do? It is extremely easy! It only takes a lack of commitment for a little while for Satan to tell you, “see, it did not hurt last week, it will not hurt this week either.” He says, “Look around, everyone else is doing it, God hasn’t condemned them… just stay home.” Or even, “you already went once this week, why would you want to go again, relax, this is the day God intended for rest, right?”

However, it did hurt the first week. You missed what God prepared for you. You missed doing what God gifted you for in church to bring you and Him joy. Your neighbors missed seeing a testimony untarnished as you go to worship the God you say you love so much, but now they see you as being JUST LIKE THEM. Satan twisted the scripture to say this is a day of rest and you bought the lie. God said rest from all labors so you can use the day to worship and praise Him. He gave you six days to make a living, the seventh is to worship Him.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

When we read about the Israelites, it is easy to ask, “Why would they forsake a God who proved Himself so many times and gave them blessing beyond measure?” “Why?” If they read our life story… would they be asking, “Why did these people, after seeing what happened with us, not learn from our mistakes?”

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.

Minding My Own Business

MARCH 26, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 26:7 He that passeth by, and meddleth with strife belonging not to him, is like one that taketh a dog by the ears.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

“Keep to yourself and mind your own business.” I can remember my dad telling me as a young boy these same words of wisdom many times. I guess he had to keep telling me this because I did not seem to listen to well the first time. Most often, he would be telling me this right after I had gotten myself into yet another situation in which I really had no business being involved.

Meddling in others affairs can often come back to bite you. It just seems all too often, when you try to help two people, before long they are both friends again, but they have turned on you! So why does this happen? It could be simply that they never asked for any help to begin with. It can come from meddling in affairs where our nose does not belong.

I always wondered how my dad got to be so smart. Maybe he remembered this verse from Proverbs. Watch out where you stick your nose, you might get it bit off!

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

The Bible tells us as Christians to help one another and if possible, to keep a brother or sister from sin and falling. However, it also says to do so in truth and in love. Before you get involved, be sure you get God involved. It just might be with a little patience and prayer God will handle the situation all on His own. If He really needs your help, He will most often let you know.
