Driving Lessons

NOVEMBER 25, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Psalm 119:71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Driving in most cities today takes a lot more concentration than in the past. This is due to several things. One, there are more drivers on the road today. If you go into any good-sized city around noon, you will know exactly what I mean. There are hundreds of people trying to get somewhere in a hurry. Two, I am getting older. My reflexes are not as quick as they use to be, and my patience seems to have shortened at times as well. Third, according to most drivers, everyone else on the road is stupid, except for them. So, with hundreds of people driving on the same roads and many with short tempers, what keeps traffic moving? It is the traffic laws. These laws tell us when and how long to wait at a light and who goes first at a four-way stop. There are hundreds of laws written which we are supposed to know. Surprisingly, we seem to know most of them.

How did we get so smart? Was it by sitting down and memorizing all those laws? Well for some maybe, but most of us learned them by seeing that these laws made sense. We see reminder signs along the roads. We have found how these laws work together for all of us. A special person with flashing lights on top of their car taught some of the laws to us. If this happened to you, I bet you drove away thinking, “Oh boy, I learned another lesson!” Yeah right. You were most likely upset you were caught, just like everyone else. However, as we get older, most of us realize, even the laws we do not like have purpose.

The same is true in life. When God allows things into our life that hurt, it never seems fair. However, God teaches us something with every situation in life. Sometimes He is simply saying, “Trust Me.”

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

With every trial in life, there is a lesson to be learned or a character to be developed. As God molds us into whom He needs us to be, we must accept that He is doing this for His good first and for ours also. He made all the statues or rules so we could all get where we are going in life safely and according to His plan. The question here might be where are you going? God will get you there if you let Him lead.

Happy Thanksgiving Every Day

NOVEMBER 24, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverb 24:1 & 20 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them… 20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

The riches of the world can entice anyone. You may think, “No, not me.” However, if someone came up with just the right offer, it could even be you. It is often not so much a desire to be filthy rich, just richer. It is not to have it all, just more. It is not to be the greatest, just better. What drives most people today is the thought of, “I just want a little more.” Most people today are a little better off than they were five or ten years ago. Yet, isn’t it funny, we still want a little more. The question then becomes, when does it ever end?

Being successful, having things, even by the world’s standards, is not in itself a sin. However, falling into the trap of allowing our desires to take over to the point where we will do almost anything to get more, is when it becomes greed and sin.

The Bible warns us against wanting so much that we end up following after or joining with sinful men to get it. Why? It is because their end will be destruction. In Prov. 24:20 it says, “For there shall be no reward to the evil man.”

The world has little in common with you Christian. They desire to glorify self, while you should be glorifying God. Their desire is to lay up treasure here on earth, and yours should be to lay up treasures in heaven. They will compromise anything to get ahead; you should never be willing to compromise your testimony to get anything. They want people to help them get ahead in life; you want to help people get ahead in life eternally. They love man and what man can offer; you love God and all He offers. There is little you have in common except this, both of you have eternal life. One has chosen eternal life in heaven with Christ; the other by default choses eternal life in hell.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As you make decisions which may seem very innocent on the surface, remember, what you decide today and whom you decide to do it with, may make a difference in your life, and the lives of others for years to come. Let’s be thankful for what God has given us today and be not envious of the world.

God Can Do Anything But Fail

NOVEMBER 23, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Ezekiel 27:36 The merchants among the people shall hiss at thee; thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt be any more.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

If someone was to tell you someday the city of New York would one day be no more, you might find that hard to believe. If they said, Real Estate there would be worth less than one dollar per square mile you would probably laugh. You cannot buy a speck on the sidewalks of New York today for a dollar, much less a square mile. It would be hard to imagine because New York today is such a busy place. This city is a financial metropolitan, and the hub of great wealth all around the world. Globally people look in awe of New York and the stock markets there as world trading goes through the city and touches every continent on the planet. However, if God said it would be destroyed… it would be destroyed.

Today’s verse was talking about a city called Tyrus or often referred to as Tyre. As New York is, so was Tyrus. It was the metropolis of that time. It seemed everything came into and flowed out of Tyrus. It was the greatest seaport around. It was thought of as way too secure in itself for anything or anyone ever to take it down. The city off the shore with a causeway from the mainland seemed untouchable. However, God said there would be a time when it would not only be destroyed, but uninhabited and fishermen would cast their nets there. Guess what, that is exactly what they do there today. Nothing has ever been rebuilt there. It is worthless property. No one wants it. Why, it is that way today because God said it would be so many years ago.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

No matter what seems impossible for God, never doubt Him. He is always right. ALWAYS. If you doubt that He can save you from your particular sins, you are wrong. He says He can. If you doubt that He can get you through your struggles today you are wrong, He says He can. Trust in Him with all your heart. He is never wrong. NEVER! God can do anything but fail.

NOVEMBER 22, 2021 – Pray For Your Meal

Pray For Your Meal

NOVEMBER 22, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Acts 27:35 And when he had thus spoken, he took bread, and gave thanks to God in presence of them all: and when he had broken it, he began to eat.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

There is a sort of humorous little standard in our house about praying before you eat. If I catch anyone grabbing a sandwich or something and just sticking it in his or her mouth without praying first, I will ask, “Did you pray over that?” If the answer comes back, “No,” the next words they hear are, “you better pray, or you are going to be sick.” Well, I am pretty sure God will not make you sick for forgetting to pray for a sandwich or something, (but please do not tell my children, ok!).

However, I do know there is a Biblical example for praying before we eat. Jesus gave thanks over the food at the last supper and before he feed the multitudes. He thanked His Father for the food He provided. Paul also gave thanks in front of all the prisoners and guards on the ship before he distributed the food to them.

Besides the Biblical examples, there are other reasons to give thanks. It shows respect when we thank God for the food He supplied which we are about to eat. It causes us to pause in our schedule to remember God who is our provider of everything.

Stopping to pray is also a powerful testimony in public. It reflects to everyone around your respect for the God you serve. I cannot remember the number of times I have prayed at a restaurant and someone walking by has said something like, “It was good to see you pray today, we do not see this so much anymore.”

Giving thanks to God is simply the right thing to do. It is respectful to God. It is placing thanks where thanks are due, and it is a great testimony in your life and this world.

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

When you get ready to eat today, take just a moment to thank God for His provision for you. No matter what you are eating, God has somehow provided it. Be a testimony for Christ. You do not need to wear a big banner that says I am a Christian. Just do what is right in the eyes of God.

Let Your Light So Shine

NOVEMBER 20 & 21, 2021

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:

Proverbs 20:27 The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:

Have you ever thought about how much light one little match can give off in a very dark room? On special occasions our church has had a candlelight service to highlight a special part of the service. Often, we have begun with the sanctuary dark and just one person lighting one candle and then passing that flame on to another, then another, and so on until everyone in the room has the candle they are holding burning brightly. However, in a dark room just one little match seems so very bright. With all the other candles ablaze, that one little match does not seem to carry such a glow. However, let everyone blow out their candles and then strike that match, and it seems to light every inch of the room. The brighter the room, the less the light of the match shows.

So it is with our life. If we keep ourselves clean from the sins of this world and watch how we live our lives, the candle of the spirit does not seem to make a glaring show as God searches our hearts. However, let sin come into our lives and the brightness which has been burning as a candle of God’s character which He has placed in you seems dim, or even to have been blown out. It is during those times in our lives that the searching candle of God seems blinding bright as it searches our heart and finds darkness there.

Sin blows out the candle of love as sin only thinks of itself and not others. Sin blows out the candle of peace as it causes uneasiness in our lives. Sin blows out the candle of joy as it robs from us the joy we once had when walking close to God and other believers. Sin causes our life to be dark, dreary, and lonely. Our verse in Proverbs 20:27 says the spirit of man is the candle which God uses to see into the heart of man and expose the darkness to drive it away. What does God see in you today?

CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:

As God searches your heart, will you allow Him once again to light up your life? Doing away with greed and selfishness and once again lighting the candle of love. Finding the peace and joy you once had and allowing God to light those areas of our life again. Let Jesus be the Light of Your Life.

WHAT TO DO ON SUNDAY:

There will not be a Daily Devotion sent out on Sundays. Instead, we encourage you to attend your church and listen intently to what God has prepared in the heart of your Pastor. Write down all the scriptures he uses in that message, then when you get home re-read those passages for today’s reading. God has given to your Pastor exactly what He desires for you on that day.
