Our Caution Required

February 20
Daily Reading – Leviticus 18-19 / Mark 2

GOD SAID:

Leviticus 18:3 After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

As a young boy, I remember being told, “look both ways before you cross the road.” It was good advice back then. It’s still good advice today. If you simply look in one direction, you may miss a danger coming from the other way. God gives us a very similar warning in today’s verse. A caution in our pathway of life is required.

God’s warning to the children of Israel would be a good warning for us today. He said, don’t do what you use to do in the life you came out of. Everything they knew, they knew from watching the Egyptians over the years. How they sacrificed to idols and worshiped many various things they called gods. God said, don’t do that anymore. Likewise, in the future ahead, God warned, there will be people doing things that are also displeasing to Him. They have an entirely different way of doing things, but different does not mean right. Don’t do that either. Look both ways. To your past as well as to your future, there are dangers in either direction. In Leviticus 18:5 God says;“Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.” In other words God was saying, listen to what I tell you, do that, and life will be so much better, I know what I’m talking about, I’m God. You know, that was good advice then and is good advice today. Our past life, filled with sin isn’t where we need to be. Nor any of traps Satan places ahead. Our caution is required.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Looking both ways is a great idea. However there is another direction in which we should look. Isaiah 26:3 “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Look Up!

In which direction are you looking today?

Our Coming Remission

February 19
Daily Reading – Leviticus 15-17 / Mark 1:21-45

GOD SAID:

Leviticus 17:11 For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

Talk about being ahead of science, this verse points hundreds of years past medical science of the day. In fact it points all the way into eternity.

In the Middle ages there was a practice known as “blood-letting.” Blood was drained out of a person to get rid of disease. If they didn’t to drain too much, sometimes it helped. However in many cases it never worked because, well people just died. There was also what is called “Leeching.” To suck the poison out of a body they would adhere blood sucking leeches to people. That wasn’t always successful either, because, well, one too many leeches and people died. Evidently no one read this part of the bible. Life is in the blood.

God wanted people to know how important the blood was way back in Old Testament times. It all pointed to the day when the blood of Jesus which paid for man’s sin would be shed. The remission of our sin took the blood, and therefore the life of God’s only Son Jesus. Hebrews 9:22 tells us; “And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.” When Jesus died as the sacrificial Lamb of God, the Jewish people should have understood what just happened. As far as that goes, we too who have all of God’s word, have no excuse for not understanding. “It is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

Our Verse in Leviticus pointed hundreds of years ahead to Our Coming Remission. Once applied it’s complete. Hebrews 10:18 says; “Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.” It is FINISHED.

Have you placed your sins under the blood?

Our Continual Reminder

February 18
Daily Reading – Leviticus 14 / Mark 1:1-20

GOD SAID:

Leviticus 14:14 And the priest shall take some of the blood of the trespass offering, and the priest shall put it upon the tip of the right ear of him that is to be cleansed, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot:

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

We have all heard of people who tie a string around their finger so that when they look at the string, it reminds them to do something. A few years back someone came up with the idea of a bracelet that many people wore. On the bracelet it said, “What Would Jesus Do?” It was a reminder for people to think about their Christian Character in the things they do. People have planners, text alerts, sticky notes, and all sorts of things to try to remind them of various things.

In our verse today, and in fact in many verses referring to sacrifice in the Old Testament, we find them marking the right ear, right thumb and the big toe on the right foot with blood. This for them was a reminder as well. First of all, being the right side was the symbol of power or strength. The ear pointed to all that they might hear. The thumb resembled all that they might do. The great toe helped them to think of everywhere they might go. Finally the blood reminded them of the sacrifice made to the Lord. When they would feel the crust of blood on their ear, see the blood on their hand and toe, it was to remind them that they were set apart for the work of the Lord.

All of this pointed to the blood that would be shed by Christ as the final sacrifice for man. As believers in Christ we too have been anointed by the blood of Christ to be mindful of what we listen too, what we do, and where we go.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

All that we do in service to the Lord is to be done in His strength, not our own. We are then to use His strength to give our all for Him in all we do. His Holy Spirit is Our Continual Reminder.

What might help you to remember that
what you listen to, do, and where you go, matters?

Holiness Vs. Leprosy

February 16 & 17
February 16 – Daily Reading – Exodus 23-24  /  Matthew 22
February 70 – NO Daily Reading

GOD SAID:

Leviticus 13:44 He is a leprous man, he is unclean: the priest shall pronounce him utterly unclean; his plague is in his head.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

The bible is full of things that depict something else. Israel wandering in the wilderness is a great picture of the lost sinner wandering around lost in their sin. God led Israel into the promised land, and the person who accepts Christ as their Saviour is led by Him into our promised land of heaven someday. The lamb which is slain for the sins of man is a perfect example of Jesus, the Lamb of God laying down His life for the sin of humanity. While Israel’s wandering is not our wandering, it depicts it, their entrance into the promise land is not us entering heaven but it depicts it. Just as there are some things that represent the sin of man such as leaven that we spoke of a couple of days ago.

Leprosy, in the time of the children of Israel’s wandering, was an incurable disease as some cancers are to us today. While also Leprosy is not sin, the treatment of it and the seriousness of it is a wonderful picture of sin. It was a poison found in the blood just as sin in man is found in us at our birth passed down from man to man, we are born in sin. Leprosy began in small little ways and then spread. Just as sin often begins manifesting itself in small ways and spreads. Lepers were sent away from the camp as sin must be sent away from our life. I guess one of the greatest resemblances was only God could heal the leper. We find often when lepers would come to Him, He did just that.

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

When Holiness vs. Leprosy, Holiness always wins. Only God is completely Holy, and He’s also omnipotent, all-powerful. Whatever your battle remember, God’s Holiness outshines them all.

What mountain have you been facing
that God and His Holiness may need to overcome?

Holiness In Leadership

February 15
Daily Reading – Leviticus 9-11 / Matthew 13:1-35

GOD SAID:

Leviticus 10:3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace.

GETTING INTO GOD’S WORD:

When I read passages like the one we have read today in Leviticus 10, I have to step back, and ask myself, how much of what we do today is a “sweet savour” to the Lord. If it were not for the shed blood of Christ, the love and grace afforded us through that blood, would some things presented on the religious scene today be actually considered an abomination in the eyes of our Lord. God said plainly, “I will be sanctified in them that come night me, and before all people I will be glorified.” Is what we see and do today sanctifying God? Is it setting Him apart from the world or is it actually making Him a part of the world. Does it really glorify God?

Nadab and Abihu were leaders of the children of Israel. They decided that they would do things their own way. They put what the bible calls “strange fire” in their censer when they went before the Lord. In other words, they made their own fire. This wasn’t the way it was to be done. The fire was to come from the altar. (Leviticus 16:12) It’s also been suggested they may have been intoxicated because of the instruction given to Aaron following their death. Leviticus 10:9 “Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:” God takes how we worship Him serious. We should too!

GETTING GOD’S WORD INTO ME:

You may be thinking, sure glad I’m not in leadership. However my friend, every born again believer is considered a priest before the Lord.(1 Peter 2:5) Every Christian is leading someone somewhere. Either closer to, or away from God.

Where are you leading people today?
