Secrets Are To Be Secret

AUGUST 17, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 20:16-19 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger: and take a pledge of him for a strange woman. Bread of deceit is sweet to a man; but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel. Every purpose is established by counsel: and with good advice make war. He that goeth about as a talebearer revealeth secrets: therefore meddle not with him that flattereth with his lips.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

Sometimes it seems awfully hard not to tell someone’s secrets. It’s as if you just cannot wait to tell what you know. However, as a Christian, after you do you wonder if that really was a wise choice. Did my sharing do any good for anyone?

Did sharing do any good for the person I was just talking about, or did it just help tear them down further, when they might be going through a rough enough time as it is.

Did it do any good for the person I told this to, or did it just set them up with information that will start gossip spinning. Quite possibly they will share part of what I said wrong, and the story will end up being something that never happened.

Finally, did it really do any good for me? Did it make me seem trustworthy in the eyes of the person I was telling? Will they confide in me when they have a problem of their own, or will they view me as a busy body that cannot be trusted with any of their own valuable information?

A person, who goes around as a talebearer, usually gets only the surface truths, and never hears the deeper truths, for which they could pray or counsel another on. We must also remember; we may have heard a lie to begin with. It may have been a tale of deceit being planted from someone’s evil heart. We need to learn to keep the stories we hear about one another close to our heart, and not our lips.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

The good news is, if you feel like you cannot hold it in any longer and just have to tell someone, there is someone who can make a difference and is waiting for you to talk with Him. God. He already knows what really happened, He knows the heart of the people who are involved, and He alone knows how to make a real difference. Take it to Him, and Him alone.
