Praise Ye The Lord

KEY FROM GOD’S WORD:
Psalm 149:6 Let the high praises of God be in their mouth, and a twoedged sword in their hand;
THOUGHT ON GOD’S WORD:
People need to praise the Lord. In today’s text, the children of Israel are preparing for battle, while at the same time praising the Lord together. Being ready to defend what belonged to God and thanking Him for the opportunity to do so. Realizing, all that they had, came from God, and remained in His control. Nevertheless, all they had was given to them by God, over which they were to be caretakers. They could not say thank you enough… at least for a while. That is until they began to forget about God’s providing hand. They praised God until the cares of the world drew their attention away from God. After that they only half-heartedly praised, put down their swords, and began tolerating pagan beliefs in their false gods. That was the beginning of their destruction.
Today we have much the same problem. We have wonderful opportunities to praise the Lord for His goodness to us, but instead many half-heartedly go to church to fulfill their religious duty. We have the word of God that is sharper than any two-edged sword to defend the promises of God and His Son Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, all too few even pick it up anymore. Instead, we tolerate the world, the pagan beliefs, and their gods. What makes us think God’s view on tolerance has changed? In fact, in Hebrews 13:8 God’s word says, “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”
CARRYING THAT THOUGHT THROUGH THE DAY:
Pick up that sword. The edges are still as sharp as ever. Wield it for the Lord. Praise Him for the opportunity He gives you to stand in defense of the truth in the army of our Almighty God. Praise ye the Lord!
