Washed Away, Not To Stay
SEPTEMBER 2, 2022
Daily Reading – Psa. 119:89-176 / 1 Co. 6
WHAT GOD HAS SAID:
1 Corinthians 6:11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
WHAT I HAVE SEEN:
Whenever I did the laundry, I would expect that the clothes should come out clean. I would spot treat any difficult stains, place the garment in the right temperature of water, add bleach if necessary and detergent. The expectation was that the dirt would be washed away, not washed and stay. Anything that could not be cleaned was often tossed in the garbage.
Sadly, today many people want to ask God to wash away their sin, yet still live in them. What they are really asking is, “please let me keep my sin, but do not punish me for it.” Today’s verse begins, “such were,” meaning in the past. Sin is dealt with and gone. It then says, “ye are,” meaning presently cleansed.
WHAT WILL YOU DO:
Did you ask God to wash away your sin or just the penalty?
