Can You Play A Harp?

January 31, 2020

DAILY PROVERBS:

Proverbs 3:12-15 For whom the LORD loveth he correcteth; even as a father the son in whom he delighteth. Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her.

OUTLOOK ON THE IN BOOK:

I didn’t really enjoy all of school. SURPRISED! Probably not. In fact, most children at some age have the same dislike of school. Many children see the purpose of school as, meeting other people, and getting a good enough grade to get out. That’s until they actually get out in working society, or into college. Then they find out, knowledge is a key that can open many doors. In factories, they’ll see those who have never worked in manufacturing, telling them what to do. Why? They’re perceived to have wisdom, because they have knowledge.

However, wisdom does not come from knowledge alone. You need knowledge, but you also need to know how to use it. If I were to sit you down in front of a harp and say, “this is how you must earn a living,” what would you do? (For you harp players out there, imagine it was a welder.) You would probably think to yourself, “I’m going to starve to death.” Why? Because even though you may have fingers to play, you have no knowledge of how it’s played. Even if your knowledge includes the order of the strings, and the notes that they produce, you don’t have the practical wisdom to apply such knowledge and play it. Knowing that it’s a harp, and what the strings do, does not give you the wisdom it takes to play this instrument. However, you could learn to play! With study, practice, and diligence, you can learn to play the harp. You might never be a concert harpist, but you could possibly earn a living.

That’s what our passage is saying today. Things are just things without both wisdom and knowledge combined. Life itself is nothing if you have no knowledge of the Creator of life, and the wisdom to apply His truths to that life.

THE WORD WALKING IN ME:

The old saying; “money does not buy happiness,” is so true. Money, or things, will never bring lasting joy into your life. Only God, the Creator of life, can bring true meaning, and real everlasting joy. Get to know Him and learn to enjoy life, as He shares His knowledge, and His wisdom, into your life.
